About Encino Holistic Dentistry
Encino Holistic Dentistry is a holistic dental practice at 5400 Balboa Boulevard, Suite 211, in Encino, California, serving the San Fernando Valley including Tarzana, Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills, Reseda and Van Nuys. The practice places no mercury amalgam. Restorative materials are selected for biocompatibility — BPA-free composites, metal-free ceramics and biocompatible cements — and biocompatibility testing can be arranged for patients with known material sensitivities.
Existing amalgam restorations are removed under the SMART protocol developed by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, using rubber dam isolation, external oxygen, high-volume suction, protective coverings and HEPA filtration to limit mercury vapor exposure. Other recorded work includes porcelain veneers, all-ceramic, zirconia and gold crowns, adhesive composite restorations, and conservative management of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm, with Friday by special arrangement.

Common Questions
Does this practice place mercury amalgam fillings?
No. It is a mercury-free practice and never places amalgam. Caries is restored with tooth-colored composite that bonds adhesively to the remaining tooth structure, preserving more natural tooth than an amalgam preparation requires. The composites used are BPA-free, and crowns are fabricated in all-ceramic, zirconia or gold rather than any mercury-containing material.
How are existing amalgam fillings removed here?
Removal follows SMART, the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique developed by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology. The protocol combines rubber dam isolation, an external oxygen supply so the patient breathes clean air, high-volume suction, protective body coverings, HEPA air filtration and removal technique intended to minimize vapor production.
How does the practice approach TMJ dysfunction and chronic jaw pain?
Temporomandibular disorders are managed conservatively rather than surgically: custom nightguards, bite adjustment, stress-management guidance and lifestyle modification. The evaluation considers how jaw function relates to posture and general health, addressing underlying causes rather than treating jaw pain and headache in isolation.
Can dental materials be tested against my own body chemistry before treatment?
Yes. For patients with known sensitivities or specific concerns, the practice can arrange biocompatibility testing to identify which materials suit an individual's chemistry.
What is offered for worn, chipped or discolored front teeth?
Porcelain veneers — thin shells of biocompatible ceramic bonded to the anterior teeth — are used to address discoloration, chips, gaps, misalignment and worn enamel. All-ceramic crowns, tooth-colored composite bonding and professional whitening are also provided, with material choice held to the same biocompatibility standard as restorative work.
What should I do if I have an urgent dental problem?
The practice asks patients to telephone the office immediately at (818) 986-7470 and makes every effort to see emergency patients the same day. Knocked-out teeth, severe toothache, fractured teeth, lost fillings or crowns, and injuries to the mouth are treated as emergencies.
