I was a patient of Dr. Velazquez about 15 years ago when I lived in Los Angeles, and he is truly an exceptional holistic dentist. He uses muscle testing to determine which type of anesthesia is most compatible with your body and incorporates homeopathic and natural healing methods (such as colloidal silver, oregano oil, collagen, and more). Dr. V is especially skilled at tooth extractions and bridges. I chose a bridge over an implant, and I believe part of his success comes from how intentional he is with timing—he allows 4–6 months of healing before placing the final bridge, giving the bone and surrounding tissue time to properly regenerate. The work he did for me 15 years ago still gets compliments from other dentists. When another dentist asks, “Who did this bridge?” and then follows with, “Wow—this is really good work,” you know you made the right choice. That’s exactly why I returned to Los Angeles—despite now living in San Diego—to have the same procedure done on the other side of my mouth. Dr. V also safely removed my mercury fillings years ago and did a very thorough job. While I can’t speak to every procedure offered in the office, if you’re looking for a truly holistic dentist, I highly recommend Dr. V for general dental care (fillings, cleanings) as well as more advanced work like extractions and bridges. And I just learned that he’s been practicing dentistry for 47 years.

I usually do not write reviews, but this time I had to! I went to see Dr. Velazquez for the first time yesterday to urgently fix the Galvanic shock situation that a different dentist created in my mouth (which caused terrible pains and sensations in my mouth and body!!!). Dr. Velazquez spent over two hours with me with a lot of patience with my questions, TMJ pain, and the anxiety that I had based on my experience with two different dentists- one that caused me severe TMJ issues and the other that created the galvanic shock effect in my mouth! Dr. Velazquez first used kinesiology to test my compatibility with different local anesthetics. His test approved my suspicion that I am sensitive to anesthetics containing epinephrine, therefore was suffering weeks after every dental treatment that was done with those anesthetics before. He then took the time to make sure my mouth is numb with the right anesthetic and dosage and went on to carefully remove an old amalgam filling with his protocol of safe mercury removal. The removal process was long due to the location of the treated tooth and the depth of the filling, but Dr. Velazquez was patient and made sure it is all out while allowing me to close my mouth when possible and to use a pain relieving cream that he gave me for my TMJ pain. He then used biocompatible materials to make a new restoration and that was covered by the insurance. Dr. Velazquez is the only holistic dentist I found who charges a reasonable amount for safe mercury removal and also works with insurance (Delta) for procedures that could be covered. Although Dr. Velazquez prepared me that my teeth might stay sensitive for a while because of the galvanic shocks I had for weeks and because of the long treatment, I am happy to say that after the local anesthesia was gone I had very mild sensitivity, none of the pain and swelling I had before when going to other dentists, and the next day (today) I have almost no sensitivity and can even chew on this side of my mouth finally. Dr. Velazquez also showed me where my bite is out of balance (due to an injury I had while taking X-rays at a different dentist), and referred me to an orthodontist to fix it. So far I am very pleased with the treatment I received from Dr. Velazquez and his wonderful assistant Janet, and will come back soon for follow-up and cleaning. Bear in mind that this review is based only on one treatment, but I am hopeful that the next one will be as good. Thank you Dr. Velazquez and Janet for making the terrible galvanic shock go away without causing me the pain and agony I normally have after going to a dentist!

My whole family has been seeing Dr. Velasquez for the last 8 years. He is an amazing dentist and very experienced and knowledgeable. He is very calm and reassuring with kids. He only does what is necessary. He truly is holistic- He does muscle testing to decided which anesthetic to use, checks your ph at every visit, avoids x-rays on kids unless absolutely necessary. My whole family enjoys our visits with Dr Velasquez!
